Charles (Charlie), (Ely) Wesley Miller, Sr. Age 96, of Piedmont, Missouri, passed away May 17, 2019 at his home. He was born January 18, 1923 in Comanche County, Protection, Kansas to Olive June (Shearer) Miller and Charles Delbert Miller. Charles Wesley Miller, Sr. and his family’s faith were of the Mennonites. As a piece of history, on October 6, 1907, the new church was formally organized as the Protection Mennonite Church of Protection, Kansas with thirty-two charter members. Charles was preceded in death by his Mother: Olive June (Shearer) Miller; Father: Charles Delbert Miller; Step Mother: Maudie Ola (Swafford) Porter; Brothers – Victor Delbert Miller, Vincent Astor Miller, Dorothea Roberta (Miller) Bump, Ross Kermit Miller; Previous Wives: Beverly and Deloris Miller; Wife: Barbara Eda (Aldrich) Miller; Daughters – Bridgette Lynn Montgomery, Cheri Lynn (Miller) Slavens, Linda Lou Miller; Son: Charles Wesley Miller, Jr.; Great Grandson: Larry Jordan Lambrecht; Granddaughter: Jackie Lee Montgomery. Charles Wesley Miller, Sr. is survived by his Brother: Wilbur Ray Miller and Wife Lee Ann of Stockton, Missouri; Sister: Fannie Mae (Miller) Benson of Joplin, Missouri; Children – Joan Lloyd of Millsboro, Delaware, Larry Miller, Sr. of Lincoln, Missouri, Joyce Ricks of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, Janet Mittelstaedt and Husband Roy of Pierce, Nebraska, Jack Montgomery and Wife Karen of Dittmer, Missouri, Monica Magill of Venice, Florida, Bertha Kilpatrick and Husband Perry of Kansas City, Missouri, Violet Burns and Husband Timothy of Lincoln, Nebraska, Carla Reese and Husband Terry of Branson, Missouri, Victor Miller, Sr. and Wife Melinda of Piedmont, Missouri; 34 Grandchildren; 50 plus Great Grandchildren; 40 plus Great-Great Grandchildren and ten Great-Great-Great Grandchildren. Charlie had many accomplishments’ – He joined the United States Army on April 10, 1946, Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas, place of entry. He had an Honorable Discharge on September 17, 1947, Fort Lawton, Washington, place of separation. He went overseas on the USS Admiral W. S. Benson and returned home on the USS Republic. The Republic was a hospital and transport ship. He was a World War II Veteran, the Greatest Generation - 1920 to 1945. Charles earned the WW II Victory Medal, WW II Occupational Medal of Japan and the Missouri WWII Award for Patriotic Service. He was part of Civilian Conservation Core in Irwin, Missouri, Veterans of Foreign War (VFW Post 348). He belonged to Eagles, Independent Order of Foresters (I.O.F.) and Independent Brothers of Electrical Workers (IBEW). He lived through the Great Depression, the Dust Bowl, 911 and so much more. He retired from Omaha Public Power District in 1980 as a Heavy Equipment Operator and a Driver Instructor. A couple other jobs he had was a truck driver, worked for the United States Postal Service and so, so many more jobs. He enjoyed country music, blue grass and some old-time religion music. In his younger years he enjoyed mushroom hunting, hunting for small game and fishing. He owned a racehorse or two. He was the kindest, most loving father, hard-working, dedicated man with more knowledge, experience and wisdom then anyone of us could imagine. May our Dad, Charles Wesley Miller, Sr., Rest in Peace. We will Always and Forever LOVE YOU with all of our Hearts. Visitation was Monday, May 20, 2019 from 12:00 noon until 1:00 pm at Ruegg Funeral Home, Piedmont. Funeral service followed at 1:00 pm also at the Piedmont Chapel. Pastor Richard Sanders ministered to the family. Burial was at Little Lake Cemetery, Patterson, MO with full military honors provided by Missouri National Guard and Arnold Hodge, American Legion Post 281, Piedmont, MO. Victor Miller Jr., Michael Kilpatrick, Chance Ricks, Bobby Shafer, Christian Ricks and Dennis Holtz served as pallbearers. Online condolences can be made at
