Bernard William “Zeke” Wheelehon, 85, of Piedmont, MO, passed away Sunday, March 17, 2019, at Landmark Hospital in Cape Girardeau, MO. He was born November 18, 1933, in St. Louis, MO, to Bernard Joseph and Dorothy (Albrecht) Wheelehon. Zeke was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He had several jobs growing up, working in his father’s body shop and at a local pizza restaurant. Zeke graduated from St. Louis University with a degree in drafting and started his career with Marlo Coil. He was in the Naval Reserves. He married Celeste Folk, and they were blessed with two sons. Zeke’s love for fishing and hunting eventually brought him and his family to the Piedmont area where he and Celeste opened Bluff View Café and later acquired Bluff View Motel. Later he opened Zeke’s Sporting Goods and Packaged Liquor, operating this business for several decades until his retirement. Zeke especially enjoyed golf and was a longtime member of the Piedmont Canyon Club. He actively volunteered for over thirty years with the St. Louis Gateway Sports Guild, and sponsored the Handicap Kids' Fishing Day. Zeke was an accomplished private pilot and was active in the Clearwater Fire Protection District. Zeke was of the Catholic faith and a member of St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Piedmont for many years. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He was preceded in death by both of his parents. Zeke is survived by his sons: Joseph “Joe” Wheelehon and wife, Brenda, of Piedmont, James “Jim” Wheelehon and wife, Elise, of Defiance, MO; grandchildren: Brent Wheelehon and wife, Veronica; Nick Wheelehon; great-grandchildren: Lauren and Hollyn Wheelehon; brother: Harry Wheelehon and wife, Yvonne, of Piedmont; sister: Mary Ricker and husband, Brian, of St. Peters, MO. Visitation was held at 9:00 am until 10:30 am, Friday, March 22, 2019 at Ruegg Funeral Home, Piedmont, MO. Funeral Mass followed at 11:00 am, at St. Catherine’s of Siena Catholic Church, Piedmont, MO. Father Dan Hirtz ministered to the family. My dad, Dick Stevenson and Zeke were good friends for years. Zeke was always a good guy and I used to aggravate him every time I went in the liquor store. RIP Zeke!

I’m so sorry for your recent loss. My deepest condolences to your family. Death of a loved one is never easy to endure, but you don’t have to go through it alone. Continue looking to God and you will always find comfort in him (2 Cor 1:3,4). He will soon destroy the enemy of death (1 Cor 15:26), and He will soon return our loved ones to us through the resurrection (John 5:28,29). Please visit and search “When Someone You Love Dies”, it helped me through some difficult times and I hope you can find comfort in it also.
