Larry D. Short 80, of Poplar Bluff, MO, passed away Friday, March 8, 2019. He was born in Tyro, KS, November 25, 1938, to parents Clarence Alvin and Gladys Leona (Lane) Short.
Larry was a loving father, grandfather and uncle. He was a foreman for General Motors for many years. On November 28, 1980, he married Velma Mae Wills. He loved gardening, fishing, watching sports, especially football and baseball. The St. Louis Cardinals was his favorite team. Larry never tired of sitting on his front porch taking in nature. He enjoyed feeding the birds and squirrels and was especially amazed with hummingbirds. Larry enjoyed spending time with his family. His dog was his best friend. He especially enjoyed BBQ’s. Larry will be missed by his family and friends.
Larry is survived by his eleven children: Ronald Short of Poplar Bluff, MO, Roger Short and wife Brenda of Poplar Bluff, MO, Robert Short and significant other Becky of Highland, IL, Gary Short of IA, Randy Hillis of Fredericktown, MO, John Hillis and wife Rosemary of Chesterfield, MO, Joseph Hillis of House Springs, MO, Ted Kottwitz and wife Sandy of Hillsboro, MO, Marsha Langlois and husband Jim of Floresville, TX, Sheri Clifford and husband Don of Franklin, IN, Julie Pesch of Festus, MO; one sister: Peggy Jo Alexander of Hobbs, NM; several grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
Larry is preceded in death by his loving wife of thirty-three years; one daughter: Lois Diane Wells; three brothers: Newt Short, Keith Short and Norman Short; two sisters: Lois Milsap and Nadine Hawkins.
Visitation was held from 12:00 until 2:00 pm, Monday, March 11, 2019 at Ruegg Funeral Home, Greenville, MO. Funeral service followed at 2:00 pm also at the Greenville Chapel. Pastor Jerry Moore ministered to the family. Ronald Short, Robert Short, Roger Short, Gary Short, Ted Kottwitz and Todd Hillis served as pallbearers.
