Obituary

Harriett Lucille (Snyder) Clay, age 92 years, was born on August 5, 1926 to Henry and Dena Snyder in University City, MO and passed away on December 24, 2018 in Poplar Bluff, MO. Harriett was the oldest of four children. She spent most of her childhood in Mill Springs, MO. After graduating 8th grade she moved to Leeper, MO and went to Leeper High School. She moved to St. Louis and later to Dittmer, MO. Harriett met the love of her life, Irvin Clay, at Big Springs in Van Buren, MO. They were united in marriage on May 26, 1942 in Corning, AR, sharing more than 54 years together. Although they did not have any children of their own, Harriett was a favorite aunt, mother, friend, great listener, and an advisor to many. She was classy, witty, sassy, fun, and wise. Harriett worked over 25 years as a hairdresser, with the last fifteen at her own shop in Dittmer, MO. Harriett and Irvin retired to Piedmont in 1982 where she remained until her death. Harriett was talented, making bracelets, quilts, gifts, and crafts. She was a member of the Eastern Star and Patterson Assembly of God Church where she was involved with the bus ministry, WMS, and retreats. She played cards, bingo, and dominoes, and loved parties. She was adventurous and loved to travel, going on many trips and cruises. Most of all she enjoyed life and spending it with friends and family. Harriett is survived by her brother-in-law, Harry Cole; close friends, Patsy Snyder, Rosa Lee Henson, Dolores Millis, Pat and Ray Roberts, and Jean Bennett; a host of nieces and nephews; and many, many friends. Harriett was preceded in death by her husband, Irvin Clay; parents, Henry and Dena Snyder; sister, Ruth Magruder; brothers, Henry (Bud) Snyder and Charles Snyder; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Wanda Cole, Deward and Betty Clay, Delbert and Maybell Clay, Robert and Elsie Duncan, Mel and Betty Clay, Al and Bonnie Clay, Lefty and Tince Lundstrum, and John Magruder; nieces and nephews, Joshua Cosby, Raymond Magruder, Larry Street, Steve Cole, Nancy DeClue, Jeffery Cole, Denny Clay, John Duncan, Ted Lindsey, and Ezra Cole. Visitation was from 10:00 am until 1:45 pm Saturday, December 29, 2018 at Ruegg Funeral Home, Piedmont, MO. Eastern Star service was provided by Piedmont Chapter 347 OES, at 1:45 pm with funeral service following at 2:00 pm also in the Piedmont chapel. Pastor Brenda Henson ministered to the family. Ethan Cosby, Seth Street, Mark Snyder, David Snyder, Douglas Peck and John Huff served as pallbearers. Burial was at Masonic Cemetery, Piedmont, MO.
