Virginia Phelps Obituary

Virginia “Jenny” Ann Phelps, 75, of Williamsville, MO, passed away Thursday, April 11, 2024, at Southeast Hospital, Cape Girardeau, MO. She was born in Poplar Bluff, MO, December 9, 1948, to parents Erich and Lois Virginia (Bailey) Hemmerlein.

Jenny was a loving mother, aunt, and friend. She married James “Jim” Phelps March 21, 1984. She was a Dietary Nutritionist at Lucy Lee Hospital, Poplar Bluff before retiring. Jenny was a devoted and faithful Christian. She was of the Baptist faith and a member of Cool Springs Baptist Church in Williamsville. Jenny was an avid reader, knew her Bible very well and loved talking about God. Not only did she enjoy reading poems at church during Christmas, she also wrote a few small children’s stories based on her grandchildren as the characters. Jenny was a very loving person. Her greatest legacy was her family whom she would do anything for, if asked. She did not miss anyone’s birthday or anniversary without giving them a card as well as saying happy birthday or happy anniversary. Jenny enjoyed the life her Lord blessed her with and enjoyed going to church.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her loving husband of thirty-six years.

Jenny is survived by her stepchildren: Ellen Carter and husband Shayne, Kim Farris, Rachel Coleman and husband Kenny all of Ellsinore, Rebekah McKinney and husband Fred of West Plains; ten grandchildren: fourteen great-grandchildren; brother: Earnest Hemmerlein and wife Cathy of Williamsville; niece: Lois Clinton and husband John of Greenville; nephew Lee Hemmerlein and wife Shannon of Williamsville and a host of friends. Jenny will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
