Virginia Ellen (Dougherty) Greene, 93, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 28, 2024, surrounded by her adoring family. She was born in Williamsville, MO, December 22, 1930, to parents James and Alpha (Hillis) Dougherty and was one of thirteen children.
Virginia married Richard Greene on August 17, 1950, and they lived together happily until his death in 2002. They had one child, Cathy, who was the light of their lives. Virginia and Richard moved to McAllen, TX in 1955 and opened McAllen Optical Company where they truly enjoyed serving their patients for forty plus years. In 2006, Virginia and Cathy moved to Allen, Tx to be closer to family.
Virginia was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend who was selfless in every way. In her quiet and patient manner, she found solace in the simple joys of life. She enjoyed reading, walking her beloved dogs, and traveling with Richard in their younger years. Virginia cherished time spent with family, finding fulfillment in the moments shared with her loved ones. Her gentle spirit and unwavering devotion touched the lives of all who knew her.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of fifty-one years; brother: Jimmy Lee Dougherty; sisters: Alpha Jane Dougherty, Freda June Davis, and Anna Belle Anderson.
Virginia is survived by her daughter: Cathy Taylor of Allen, TX; grandchildren: Kenny Taylor and companion Mariah, Josh Taylor and fiancé Logan, Kristy Butler and husband Rob; great-grandchildren: Brody Butler, Baylee Butler; future great-grandchildren: Jordan, Grayson, Blake; brothers: Bill Dougherty and wife Edith, Mac Dougherty and wife Anna; sisters: Nita Tatham, Helen Dirck, Della Blecha, Pat Anderson and husband Dean, Beverly Hake and husband Larry, Doris Lehmann and husband Ron; sister-in-law: Jane Dougherty; many nieces and nephews. Virginia will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Visitation was held 1:00 pm, Saturday, March 16, 2024, at Ruegg Funeral Home, Williamsville Chapel. Funeral service followed at 2:00 pm, also in the Williamsville Chapel. Pastor Will Dougherty ministered to the family. Kristy Butler gave a heartfelt eulogy. Special music was provided by Will and Bill Dougherty. Josh Taylor, Kenny Taylor, Bill Dougherty, Rob Butler, Shawn Dougherty, and Larry Skiles served as pallbearers. Burial was in Chapel Hill Cemetery, Williamsville.
