Obituary for Marvin Lee Darden

Marvin Lee Darden
Marvin Lee Darden, 78, of Piedmont, MO, passed away Thursday morning, October 25, 2018, peacefully in his home after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was born March 21, 1940 in Piedmont, MO to parents Winford Elbert and Bonnie Gertrude (Atnip) Darden. Marvin was a loving father and grandfather. A longtime resident of Piedmont, he grew up in the area attending Piedmont School. On August 20, 1957, Marvin enlisted in the United States Navy, honorably serving for two years. During his time of service, he served on a fleet tug, the USS Kiowa. April 7, 1962, he married his beloved wife Ruthie living a wonderful and cherished life together until her passing in 2006. Marvin loved old westerns, NASCAR, classic country music, old muscle cars, listening to his grandson Dylan play the guitar, black coffee, and most of all his family. He was known for his pearl snap shirts, blue jeans, boots and head full of hair that was never out of place. Marvin retired with Enterprise Leasing, after forty years of service as parts manager. He found many things to keep him busy and bring him joy after retirement. Having a house full of company with food, smile and laughs was something he cherished dearly. Even in his final hours, Marvin was surrounded by those who loved him most, with the music he always enjoyed listening to. As a navy veteran, Marvin always had plenty of “remember when” stories to share. Most of which, typically included his closest friend and brother-in-law, Bob Bennett and his other lifelong friend Dave Hughes. He loved to reminisce on his days of fast cars, time in the military, time spent on the farm and his beloved wife Ruthie. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, the one true love of forty-four years, Minnie “Ruth” (Hughes) Darden. Marvin is survived by his children; Scott Darden and wife Mary of St. Louis, MO, Sherri Darden of Piedmont, MO, Angela Clyburn and husband Tony of Mill Spring, MO; grandchildren: Scott Peyton Darden, Adrian CJ Clyburn, Dylan Todd Schrader, Trevor Mitchell Darden, Jessica Berry and Matthew Berry; brothers: Luke Darden and wife Jeanne of Maryland, DE, Roger Darden and wife Debbie of Festus, MO; sisters, Donna Montgomery and husband Johnny of Cuba, MO and Wilma Miller of Lovilia, IA, and his best buddy and companion, his dog, Bandit. Visitation was held at 5:00 pm, Saturday, October 27, 2018 at Ruegg Funeral Home, Piedmont, MO. Funeral service followed Sunday, October 28, 2018 at 2:00 pm also at the Piedmont chapel. Pastor Richard Sanders ministered to the family. Scott Darden, Dylan Schrader, Tony Clyburn, John Jones, Bob Bennett Jr. and Timmy Montgomery served as pallbearers. Special music was provided by Adrian “CJ” Clyburn and Dylan Todd Schrader. Burial was in the Masonic cemetery, Piedmont, MO with full military honors.
