Verl L. Sherrill, age 91, of Annapolis, MO, passed away Sunday, March 4, 2018, at Iron County Medical Center, Pilot Knob, MO. He was born July 10, 1926, at Annapolis, MO, to parents Luther and Martha (Lewis) Sherrill.
Verl was a lifelong resident of Annapolis, MO. He attended high school in Annapolis which is also where he met Joann Mann. She became a sparkle in his eyes and they married October 23, 1948. They spent sixty-one years together until Joann passed in 2010. Verl served in the Navy and fought in World War II earning a victory medal. He owned and operated Verl’s Auto Parts from 1973-1995. Verl was a wonderful and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He enjoyed being with his family and playing games. Cards were his favorite. He especially loved spending time with his great-grandson, Jordan.
In addition to his wife he is preceded in death by his parents; one brother: Jerald Sherrill and two sisters: Verena Pierson and Rita Sherrill.
He is survived by two daughters: Judy Dean and husband Joe of Annapolis, MO, and Debbie Hays and husband Russell of Piedmont, MO; two brothers: Durll Sherrill of Ironton, MO and Harl Sherrill and wife Lis of Glasgow, Kentucky; Grandchildren: Rob Dean of Annapolis, MO and Monica Francis also of Annapolis, MO; one Great-Grandson: Jordan Francis; Verl’s best friend: Gerald Johnson of Annapolis; several nieces, nephews and many friends.
Visitation for Verl was held Tuesday, March 6, 2018, from 5:00 pm, at Ruegg Funeral Home, Piedmont, MO. Services for Verl followed Wednesday, March 7, 2018, at Free Spirit General Baptist Church at Vulcan, MO, at 2:00 pm. Pastor Steve Sale ministered to the family.Granddaughter Monica Francis provided the eulogy. Rob Peden, Bill Majors, Shawn Sherrill, Steve Sherrill, Don Sherrill and Ryan Goehman served as pallbearers. Great-Grandson Jordan Francis provided a solo, as well as Diana Lamb and Becky Miller.
